Telemedicine
In 2009, NVHA developed a regional telemedicine support network to help NVHA members manage critical care and trauma surges during major emergencies. The system design includes a mobile video cart, known as eCare Mobile, which has been deployed to each NVHA member hospital Emergency Department. Clinicians from the NVHA member hospitals can use these carts to enable 2-way communication using high-definition video and auidbetween their hospital and the Inova eICU where they can receive consultation and decision-making support from an Emergency Medicine Physician from the Level I trauma center at Inova Fairfax Hospital. In the event of a pediatric patient surge, the eICU system can connect NVHA member hospitals with a Pediatrician who is board-certified in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
